A grass fire in the Mortlake Flora Reserve four kilometres West of Mortlake has burnt over 450 hectares and kept fire crews busy through the night. It's believed the fire started following a planned burn yesterday afternoon that broke containment lines around 6.45. 16 fire fighting units attended to the fire with back up from a Helitack Helicopter and fixed wing bomber. C.F.A will continue to monitor the fire today.

It's two years since Peter's Project was formed with the focus of setting up a Cancer Care Centre for the southwest based in Warrnambool. Founder Vicki Jelly was inspired to lead the project following the death of her husband from cancer. Vicki says over 427 thousand dollars has been raised from the community... but they're still waiting on the State Government.

Upgrades to Hamilton's Lawn Tennis Club have started, which will see an additional six lighted synthetic tennis courts added to the facility. The new courts will create a regional hub for tennis in Hamilton, allowing the club to run competitions all year round, as well as at night. Mayor Bob Penny says the upgrades should be completed by April.

Hamilton Football Netball club are looking forward to successful season both on and off the field, naming a brand new board headed up by new Chairman Paul Block. The Magpies have had good numbers at training, and the new administration team are committed to turning the clubs fortunes around this year. Paul says that with good recruitment coupled with good support off the field from volunteers they are optimistic about 2012.
